The inspiration for this post comes from that I just saw a Corolla with some race-spec-y looking front end and a hood scoop.

I saw it while cruising home comfortably in this amazing ~70 degree weather in Houston right now. I couldn't be bothered to take a pic because all the roads are empty for a while around this time on weekdays and I was enjoying cruising at 30mph. Boy, I sure do love living not so close to the crowded city.

A fleet of 3 or 4 pre-production test mule SUVs. They were in Kamloops, Canada, nowhere near either an extreme cold or extreme hot area, nor anywhere near a test track or manufacturing facility. This was early '00s, before the current trend of swirly camo, instead with black "car bra" type covers over much of the body. It was also long before cameraphones were ubiquitous, so of course I don't have a pic. To this day, I'm still not 100% sure what models they were, but after the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne were released, I was pretty sure that what I saw was one of those two models.

That's really neat! A cousin of mine was on vacation with his family this past summer and while en route to LA or from LA to Vegas, he told me that for a few seconds during his trip he got a glimpse of several matte black test mules sitting at a gas station in the middle of no where. He recalls that they looked exotic, but couldn't identify them properly.
